Say hello to our new Marketing Executive, Elliot Williams, who joins us for the summer after his placement year. We’re very excited to have Elliot on board with us and especially enjoy his taste in music – so much so that we’ve given him complete control of Spotify (which is quite a big deal round here!). Elliot brings with him a fresh outlook on Marketing & PR, placing a lot of emphasis on digital channels and the merging of creativity with sales. When he’s not fine-tuning client’s social schedules, you can find him catching up on all the latest TV and films or out at a gig.
What is your background?
I was born and raised in Basingstoke, Hampshire in ’95. I have always pursued business throughout school and college before finally starting my MAPR (Marketing, Advertising & PR) degree at Birmingham City Uni.
Do you have any hobbies?
I’m an avid West Ham fan – favourite player Mark Noble aka Mr West Ham. I am aiming to get tickets to see us play in our new stadium in the upcoming season as I missed out this year. Although football is my favourite sport I still take an interest in F1, MMA and international rugby.
Also, I am very into music and regularly attend live gigs for bands/artists I like such as Foals, Maccabees and Metronomy.
When I am at home I spend a lot of my time watching TV and films. I own around 400 DVD’s and have seen most of the Netflix original series’.
What have you been up to in your first week?
During my first week I have produced some social calendars, created some adverts and helped to organise and categorise some content.
How did you get into marketing?
I have always had a passion for marketing since watching the Apprentice as a kid. I considered sales originally, and ran my own soft drinks business in school testing out those skills. In college I chose to focus on marketing as this seemed to be where my business strengths were, based on my work.
I like marketing because of how important it is to the success of businesses and how it incorporates sales and creativity. Being from my generation I have seen how digital has taken over almost all aspects of life with marketing no different.
What’s your favourite social media channel and why?
Instagram is my favourite channel because it is image based and easy to scan through without missing anything. Also it seems less crowded than Twitter and Facebook, brands and pages don’t spam this channel as much as they do others. I like to share photos of places I’ve been and this is where I would think to do so.
Have you got any marketing pet peeves?
- Brands that push out endless streams of content for no reason.
- Emails that have no relevance to you.
- People that post essays as FB statuses.
Give us 3 random facts about yourself.
- I have nearly died twice – I came away with a fractured back and eye socket.
- When playing football, I have two left feet and I’m right footed.
- I am the eldest of 5 siblings.
