What a week! Not only have we moved into our hip new office within Branston Court, but we’ve also had the pleasure of welcoming Scarlett Martin aboard the good ship huzzah! Scarlett joins us from a copywriting background across a variety of industries, with a real passion for words and a keen eye for design – not to mention a wicked sense of style. As her job title suggests, she’ll be working with our clients on all things content and social media to keep them looking their best online.
What have you been up to in your first week?
It definitely hasn’t been the most conventional first week- but I’ve loved it! I’ve helped the team move into their beautiful new office, been out to meet some of their clients and created some blog posts. I can’t wait to see what else they have planned for me!
How did you get into marketing?
I studied Fashion Promotion and Design at Nottingham Trent Uni, with every intention of getting a fashion marketing job once I finished. However, my plan soon went to pot once I realised just how much I enjoyed copywriting. Writing about fashion alone was no longer enough for me and I just wanted to write about everything and anything I could get my hands on. I managed to bag myself a marketing internship with a small retailer and then secured my first copywriting job with a link building company shortly after. The best part about marketing for me is the satisfaction you get from knowing that your hard work is benefitting others.
What’s your favourite social media channel and why?
Instagram is definitely my favourite without question. I love how my feed is just packed with a constant stream of amazing images that have been shared not only by my friends and family, but people who I admire for one reason or another. I always leave Instagram feeling full of inspiration. The great sense of community and the lack of continual ads are also why I enjoy using it!
Do you have any hobbies?
I’m a huge film buff and I would spend all day everyday watching movies if I could. My favourite thing to do is to curl up on the sofa with my boyfriend and my cats to watch a movie marathon or to binge a TV series. I’ve recently started a blog where I can share my love of film and TV and I also collect records of movie soundtracks from past and present eras.
When I’m not glued to a screen I like to flex my creative muscles with some embroidery and by making my own clothes and cosplay costumes. There’s nothing more satisfying when someone compliments you on something you’ve made yourself.
Have you got any marketing pet peeves?
Fake news and clickbait ads really grind my gears! Thankfully, I think people are slowly getting more clued up on what they should and shouldn’t buy into.
